Description This interesting library table is of serpentine form. It still has the original leather-lined top. The canted corners are carved with a 'truss' beneath oval paterae, one side with a central through drawer above the recess flanked by two sets of four graduated drawers, the uppermost divided into six compartments, their covers inlaid with the letters of the alphabet, the one to the right fitted with two secret compartments and a baize-lined writing slide, and the other to the left fitted with a serpentine-shaped mahogany template which rests loosely on three (originally four) hand-made nails, which fills the gap behind the covers and serves as another secret compartment, this template with an original pencilled inscription as follows - "Flat that may be fit in to fill up/ the whole width of the drawer even wth/ the Top Surface of this Alphabet;" the other side of the library table with the central through drawer above the recess flanked by single drawers above cupboards; the ends of plain serpentine form, on a plinth base.
